The Region

Rated as one of Europe's most popular, and attractive, ski resorts Kitzbuhel has something to offer every type of skier. On the slopes you will make steady progression from relaxing cruising to testing steeps, whilst in the town a warm Tyroloean welcome awaits. Home to the famous Hahnenkamm World Cup downhill race. the painted houses and cobbled streets, create an upbeat holiday atmosphere, regardless of the time of your visit. The ski area enjoys a sheltered location with many north facing slopes, that help ensure good skiing both above, and below the tree line, all season long.

The Skiing

Several starting point options for beginners, at the foot of the Hahnenkamm, on a sunny plateau at the top of the Kitzbuheler Horn, at the quieter Pass Thurn end of the valley, or the pretty village of Aschua. The ski school instructors are excellent, and tentative first steps will soon become confident linked turns, as they head up the mountain to enjoy some of the best intermediate runs in Austria. The extent and variety of the resort's red and blue runs are unbelievable. There are a number of interesting runs on the Kiztbuheler Horn and also several long runs back down to the valley. The connection between the top of the Hahnenkamm cable car and Pengelstein is easily managed, and long, beautiful ski safari from Kitchberg to Pass Thurn is a 35km delight. For the more advanced, several testing red and black runs await. Ther most challenging skiing in the region is found beneath th Zweitausender (Pass Thurn) chairlift where a north facing, deeply mogulled 500m drop, will certainly test you. You will also find a superb powder bowl adjacent to the Hochsaukaser chair lift, which leads to another three thumping mogul fields. For snowboarders, the Kitzbuheler Horn offers a variety of gullies and also boasts a funpark, offering a pro-jump, quarter pipe. slalom sprint course. a boarder X course (weather permitting) and a stunning 60 metre half-pipe. All of this in conjunction with 55 marked pistes on the Hahnenkamm, make Kitzbuhel and excellent snowboard area.
