SKI AUSTRIA - St. Michael
The Resort
The Lungau area is a peaceful, traditional valley, full of typical Austrian character, relatively untouched by tourism and yet easily accessible by motorway from Salzburg. Situated in the Tauern mountain range, this area has the excellent advantage of catching snowfall from the north and from the south. The Oberlungau skiing area extends around the charming villages of St Michael, Mauterndorf, Mariapfarr and the main town of Tamsweg, which is the coldest town in Austria.The entire valley is relatively unaffected by the regular warm winds found in the Tyrol and other areas, providing an excellent snow record throughout the season.
The Skiing
The Oberlungau pass is an extended area pass, which enables your group to ski in several different resorts, all with their own special character, and all offering a good variety of skiing.The village atmosphere and lack of crowds in these small areas creates a particularly safe and friendly environment for school parties.There are 3 main skiing areas covered by our pass: Fanningberg consists of 7 lifts giving access to many well-prepared runs for all abilities, boasting the "Samson" lift, the longest 6 man chair lift in the world. Access is a short climb by coach up to the main access point at 1500m, offering excellent conditions for beginners and intermediate skiers.Katschberg-Aineck is on the border between Salzburgerland and Carinthia providing 60 km of varied skiing, with 2 chair lifts and 11 draglifts.Großeck-Speiereck offers 60 km of skiing up to a height of 2400m between the towns of Mauterndorf and St Michael. Lifts consist of 4 chair lifts and 5 draglifts.
