The Resort
The beautiful 13th century town of Zell am See has everything to make the perfect school group ski trip possible. The variety of well prepared pistes provide the skiing while the cobbled pedestrianised streets, lined with shops, cafes, discos etc., provide a wide range of aprés ski activities. Situated in the heart of the Europa Sports Region the ski areas of Zell am See, Thumersbach, Kaprun and Kitzstein offer superb skiing all year round. Our Europa Sport lift pass covers the 70km of pistes offered in Zell am See and Thumersbach area, and the 60km of piste in the Kaprun and Kitzstein Glacier area. Combined, the Europa Sports area offers more than enough challenging and enjoyable skiing for most school groups. Those who wish to ski their legs off, and late season skiers, will certainly enjoy skiing up on the glacier.
The Skiing
A superb snow record, guaranteed skiing on the Kitzstein Glacier - especially at Easter, make Zell am See one of the most popular Austrian resorts. Most groups use the Areitbahn telecabin to join the main ski Zell ski area. Beginners start either at the base or middle station of the telecabin, with intermediate skiers having the more challenging blues and reds at Hirschkogel, Schmittenhohe and Sonnkogel to explore. For the more advanced skiers there are a number of testing black runs leading down to the heart of the town. The spectacular views of the resort area and lake have not to be missed from the top of the Schmittenhohe. The Kaprun\Kitzteinhorn area adds 60km of piste to the ski area, 50km of which are on the glacier itself. A picturesque funicular ride takes you up to 2400m with a cable car carrying you the remaining 629m to the top station. The wide blue and red runs around the bowl of the glacier help develop the skiing ability of all. Snowboarders are not forgotten and the permanent snowboard fun park, with it's half pipes, jumps and rails, will ensure an enjoyable time learning new tricks.
