The Resort
Pleasant village well stocked with shops and holiday facilities. Big snowboard venue with expert instruction and knowledgeable hire shops. Other facilities include: snowboarding park; skating rink; many shops and boutiques; night clubs; cinema; restaurants and pizzerias; church; doctor, pharmacy and post office; information office; emergency service; swimming pool (swimming hat must be worn)
Prato Nevoso is quite well developed and has a friendly atmosphere. There’s something of a local community with school, church and a gallery of shops, bars and restaurants. Prato is also the home of the Italian Snowboard Club and top competitions are held here at the recently enlarged floodlit Snowpark. The people in this ski hire shop are all mad-keen and delight in teaching youngsters to snowboard. The snowboard park is rated one of the best in Italy and is floodlit every Tuesday, Friday and Saturday night.
The Ski Area
Purpose - built for ease of use, the main features of this popular circuit are convenience, value and unexpectedly high mileage. There are plenty of wide, long runs that invite ambitious intermediates to work hard and get off that plateau! The pistes link well and there is plenty of skiing both above and below the tree line often in brilliant sunshine. Piste maintenance is particularly good and there has been a lot of investment in recent years. Over the past few seasons we have seen a remarkable improvement in the lift system due to the very considerable investment in new chairs, snowmaking and re-shaping the pistes. The lift company are really trying hard here. Prato Nevoso has excellent natural conditions because the warmer winds from the South meet the cold alpine air and precipitation is excellent. We can’t remember a bad snow winter here.
There are 2 separate resorts, linked by lift and piste. Prato Nevoso is really exceptional for beginners, whereas Artesina, with its long intermediate runs, is good for enthusiastic piste-bashers. The scope would not disgrace a much bigger resort. Many of the runs are on wide-open snowfields so visibility is good and supervision is easy.
There are now 2 brand new moving-carpet type lifts, especially for beginners, one outside the Hotel Galassia and one in the village. These are over 50m long and allow novices to practise on gentle slopes in safety without having to manage conventional lifts.
