The Resort
"The Beast of the East" is the reputation that Killington has earned over the years. The largest ski area in New England also boasts the longest season, lasting into early June in some years. Over 200 trails covering seven mountains and an impressive range of après ski will guarantee that you never tire of Killington.
Killington normally attracts 250 inches of snow each winter, yet the snowmaking system is so sophisticated that the resort can manage perfectly well without a trace of the real thing. It is the first resort in the east to open, and the last to close. The seven peaks provide plenty of skiing and riding for all grades, with the emphasis is on high mileage confidence building runs. The beginner slopes (in the snowshed area on the 10 mile 'Juggernaut' run) encourage a gentle learning curve. The Perfect Turn Discovery Centre, Killington's introduction to skiing and snowboarding, is praised ("I do not think you could go to a better place to learn to ski"). For the more adventurous there are plenty of challenging runs including the mogul field run 'The Outer Limits'. For snowboarders Killington offers three terrain parks, a super-pipe and a boardercross racecourse.
Ice skating, ten-pen bowling, 'Bumps' teen disco, outlet shopping at Manchester or Lake George, shopping malls in Rutland, snowshoeing, cinema, evening tubing, visit to Ben & Jerry's ice cream shop.
